- This project is part of the commitment and collaboration between Grupo Empresarial Argos, Unibán Foundation, Puerto Antioquia, the Rosalba Zapata Corporation, and the Turbo Municipality, all aimed at the sustainable development of the region.
- The design of Parque Alegría was the result of a contest held by Cementos Argos, in which more than 3,000 children and adolescents from across the country participated. They used the metaverse to design a space for community enjoyment.
- The park will be equipped with children’s playgrounds, a reading area, a sports court, an outdoor gym, and more, making it the first space of its kind in Nueva Colonia.
- The first stage of the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
Grupo Argos Foundation, Cementos Argos, Unibán Foundation, Puerto Antioquia, the Rosalba Zapata Corporation, and the Turbo Municipality have joined forces with a common purpose: to improve the quality of life for more than 12,000 residents of the 29 de Noviembre neighborhood in Nueva Colonia, Urabá, through the construction of Parque Alegría.
Nearly 3,000 children and adolescents from across Colombia, between the ages of 7 and 17, participated in the From the Metaverse to Reality tournament, led by Cementos Argos, with the goal of encouraging the commitment of younger generations to the development of their regions. In this first edition, more than 500 proposals for spaces designed in the metaverse, using the game Minecraft, were submitted, with the goal of aligning them with the community’s priorities to bring them to life in what will become Parque Alegría. Additionally, around 500 children and young people from Urabá participated and were trained as part of the initiative.
To make this dream a reality, the project will have four construction phases, which will include land preparation, the installation of green areas, and playgrounds. The first phase is already being materialized thanks to contributions from Cementos Argos, Grupo Argos Foundation, Unibán Foundation, and the Rosalba Zapata Corporation. Meanwhile, the Turbo Municipality provided the land where Alegría will be built. Phases two and three will be led by Grupo Argos Foundation, while phase four will be managed by Puerto Antioquia.
“Parque Alegría not only becomes the first recreational space of its kind in the region but also symbolizes the transformative power of partnerships between the public and private sectors. We are excited to begin the first of four phases of this great project and to contribute to the well-being of the community through the creation of a space full of joy for connecting, growing, and thriving together,” said David Jaramillo, regional manager for the northwestern zone of Cementos Argos.
“We have a commitment to Urabá that goes beyond the present, which has led us to invest more than COP 14 billion over the last decade in social transformation projects to support the well-being of thousands of families in the region through Cementos Argos, Celsia, Odinsa, and Grupo Argos Foundation. Our goal is to continue working together with the communities, the public sector, and all stakeholders in this region to keep growing Together for Urabá,” stated María Camila Villegas, Executive Director of Grupo Argos Foundation.
The construction of Parque Alegría is not just about creating a physical space; it is an investment in the future of the district, aiming to drive other development initiatives in the region to promote a healthier and more cohesive environment. Moreover, the park will become a gathering place for cultural, educational, and recreational activities for children, young people, and adults, thereby strengthening community bonds.
