More than 25,000 people will benefit from the improvement of the Alto de la Quiebra – Santo Domingo road, developed through the Works for Taxes mechanism

9 April 2025
  • This project is part of the OXI Roundtable (Mesa OXI) led by Grupo Argos and developed with tax contributions from Cementos Argos, Mincivil, Hidralpor, Finca, Contegral, and Nutresa.
  • The road improvement between Alto de La Quiebra and Santo Domingo connects the Northeastern and Eastern regions of Antioquia, strengthening tourism and boosting the region’s economy.
  • This initiative was coordinated through the Works for Taxes Roundtable led by Grupo Argos, Bancolombia, and Proantioquia. To date, 19 contributing companies have joined this effort, which currently includes projects worth over COP 350 billion.

As part of the Works for Taxes mechanism, on Tuesday, March 25, Grupo Argos, Cementos Argos, Mincivil, Hidralpor, Finca, Contegral, and Nutresa delivered the technical completion of the improvement of 9.1 kilometers of the Alto de la Quiebra – Santo Domingo road to the project oversight team and the Government of Antioquia. This project benefits more than 25,000 people in the municipality of Santo Domingo, Antioquia, and strengthens connectivity between the Northeastern and Eastern regions of the department.

The road improvement represented an investment of nearly COP 39 billion, funded through income tax contributions from participating companies. It generated 150 direct jobs, more than half of which were filled by local labor, and was executed 100% in line with the schedule and budget approved in 2023 by the Agency for Territorial Renewal (ART) and Invías, when the project received the green light. In addition to the roadworks, the project included the construction of 24 retaining walls and 99 culverts—complementary structures essential to properly manage landslides and water drainage.

“We are proud to deliver this road improvement to the community of Santo Domingo, which reaffirms that the Works for Taxes mechanism is a key tool for companies to continue contributing to the positive transformation of Colombia’s rural areas most in need. It also demonstrates that the coordination of efforts between the public and private sectors is essential to improving the well-being of communities.”

This initiative is the result of a collaborative model that brings together the efforts of multiple stakeholders to structure and execute projects with direct impact on rural communities. In this context, Proantioquia has played an important role in promoting Works for Taxes as a key mechanism for territorial development and reducing social gaps in the department.
