2 August 2024
  • The event managed to mobilize around 170 volunteers, including company employees and the National Army, and impacted over 19,000 residents of Nueva Colonia.
  • During the volunteer activities, there were beautification projects for educational institutions, construction of gardens, community workshops, farmers’ markets, and more.
  • Vamos Colombia Nueva Colonia marks the first milestone for Grupo Empresarial Argos in the region as part of a comprehensive territorial transformation plan framed within its 90th anniversary.

As part of Grupo Argos Foundation’s commitment to promote territorial transformation processes in different regions and within the framework of celebrating Grupo Empresarial Argos’ 90th anniversary, Nueva Colonia was the setting for a new volunteering for Vamos Colombia from Thursday, July 25, to Sunday, July 28, impacting over 19,500 residents of this district of Turbo.

Among the activities carried out during the volunteering were the beautification of educational institutions—29 de Noviembre, Institución Etnoeducativa Central, and its branches: Caribe and 19 de Marzo—the construction of a community garden, the adaptation and provision of a toy library, and the development of eight workshops focused on providing tools to improve the community’s quality of life and strengthen entrepreneurship and farmers’ markets, among others.

“We work for the transformation of territories, and we organized this volunteer event to commemorate the 90th anniversary of Grupo Empresarial Argos, this time in Urabá. We aim to continue making an impact, be part of the solution to some of the needs of Nueva Colonia, and build bridges to inspire change and contribute to building a more empathetic and supportive society.”

María Camila Villegas
Executive Director Grupo Argos Foundation

The volunteering mobilized more than 100 volunteers from companies such as Grupo Argos, Comfama, Puerto Antioquia, Greenland, Uniban Fundación, Indeleble, Secretos para Contar, USAID, ACDI-VOCA, and 50 volunteers from the National Army. For this initiative, Fundación Grupo Argos partnered with Fundación ANDI as a strategic ally to implement its intervention model, which seeks to create enriching experiences for both the communities and the volunteers.

As part of the event’s conclusion, a closing session was held where the community committed to caring for the projects developed and applying the knowledge acquired to strengthen their family and community projects, thus promoting Nueva Colonia as a place of sustainability and reconciliation.

Vamos Colombia is the volunteer project of Fundación ANDI, through which volunteers engage in positive actions for reconciliation in more than 24 meetings between families from different territories, business leaders, and members of the armed forces.
