- Last year, through its Sembrando Futuro program, Fundación Grupo Argos planted over 1 million native tree species in Andean forest, tropical dry forest ecosystems, and 200,000 mangrove seedlings in the departments of Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Sucre, Tolima, and Valle del Cauca. Thanks to this program, 69 direct green jobs and 708 indirect jobs were created.
- Since 2018, Fundación Grupo Argos has planted 3.9 million trees, including 452,000 mangrove seedlings, which contribute to the restoration of 9,330 hectares of forest and 70 hectares of mangrove.
- For this initiative, the Foundation has an integral intervention model that seeks to restore ecosystems affected by human actions in order to reverse their deterioration, protect water resources, restore ecological integrity, and recover the basic components of their structure, composition, and ecosystem function.
On the occasion of Earth Day, Grupo Argos Foundation announced the planting of 600,000 native tree species in Andean and tropical dry forest ecosystems, and 400,000 mangrove seedlings in the departments of Antioquia, Atlántico, Bolívar, Sucre, and Valle del Cauca. These plantings, which will be carried out as part of their Sembrando Futuro program, are significant as they will contribute to the protection of six watersheds and generate nearly 1,000 direct and indirect green jobs associated with the restoration processes.
“We are committed to protecting water from the mountains to the sea, which is why our intervention methodology is based on the needs of the territories to propose conservation and restoration processes with a positive impact on communities. The goal by 2030 is to plant a total of 10 million trees.” – María Camila Villegas, Executive Director of Fundación Grupo Argos.
This program also includes the technical development and strengthening of green businesses, community participation, and partnerships with allies to mobilize territories towards a bioeconomy. Likewise, environmental education workshops and training are conducted on the monitoring and maintenance of the planted individuals.
