Grupo Argos Foundation and Sociedad Antioqueña de Ornitología launch a book featuring information on more than 1,000 native bird species of Antioquia

  • “Aves de Antioquia, Guía de Campo” is a publication by the Sociedad Antioqueña de Ornitología aimed at promoting conservation, education, and sustainable tourism, while also contributing to scientific knowledge about the biodiversity of Antioquia.
  • This book offers readers photographs of over 1,000 bird species found across various ecosystems, including mangroves, rainforests, dry forests, páramos, and the inter-Andean valleys of the Magdalena, Cauca, and Atrato rivers. These habitats range from sea level to 4,080 meters above sea level, representing 10% of the world’s bird diversity.

Sociedad Antioqueña de Ornitología (SAO) and the Grupo Argos Foundation presented to the public the publication “Aves de Antioquia, Guía de Campo”, a contribution to scientific knowledge, biodiversity conservation, and the promotion of sustainable tourism in the department.

The book, unveiled during the Festival de las Aves in Medellín, is part of the celebration of SAO’s 40th anniversary. Its goal is to showcase Antioquia’s natural heritage through photographs of over 1,000 bird species documented in local ecosystems, including mangroves, dry forests, páramos, and inter-Andean valleys, ranging from 0 to 4,080 meters above sea level.
